Premium Craftsmanship: Large HT-BLOC Welded Plate Heat Exchangers Successfully Delivered

SHPHE has completed and shipped a batch of large HT-Bloc welded plate heat exchangers for a CNOOC project. The delivery announcement identifies a heat duty of up to 20 MW per unit and a pressure rating of 3.0 MPa, with particular attention to plate forming, core alignment and weld quality.

Large duty requires a connected design and manufacturing plan

Increasing heat transfer area is only one part of a large exchanger design. Plate geometry, flow distribution, support and assembly tolerances all affect the final equipment. The thermal calculation must be translated into a plate pack that can be consistently formed, aligned, welded and inspected.

For this delivery, SHPHE reported first-pass acceptance of welding inspection and pressure testing. Those results describe this manufacturing batch. They do not remove the need to define the examination methods, acceptance criteria and witness points for another project.

Why HT-Bloc was developed for process duties

The HT-Bloc welded plate heat exchanger combines a welded heat-transfer core with a cover arrangement that provides access according to the supplied configuration. It can be evaluated for liquid-to-liquid exchange and selected condensing or reboiling services in refining, gas treatment and chemical processing.

Welded interplate channels avoid reliance on elastomeric gaskets within the core. Cover and connection sealing still need to be considered as part of the complete pressure boundary. Material compatibility and the design's pressure-temperature envelope remain duty-specific.

Review a large exchanger beyond its headline rating

Review itemQuestion for the project team
20 MW thermal duty in the announced projectWhat fluid conditions, flow range and temperature approach define that duty?
3.0 MPa reported pressure ratingWhat are the design conditions on each circuit and the permitted differential pressure?
Installed layoutCan the unit be transported, lifted and supported with the required maintenance space?
Inspection packageWhich material, welding, examination and test records are required at handover?

Heat duty and mechanical pressure rating describe different requirements. Neither number should be used by itself to infer the size, material or operating limits of a different unit.

Plan for long-term access

Where the configuration includes removable covers, the installation should preserve access to both sides of the plate channels and the specified cleaning route. Piping, cable trays and adjacent equipment can otherwise make a maintainable exchanger difficult to service.

Acceptance records should establish the equipment identification and the approved design basis. Commissioning data then adds a clean thermal and hydraulic baseline that operators can use when judging later performance.

Discuss a large welded plate heat exchanger

Provide a complete thermal datasheet and the applicable mechanical specification, followed by transport limits, lifting restrictions and the requested inspection plan. SHPHE can use those inputs to assess the HT-Bloc configuration and identify fabrication or installation requirements early.
