In May 2026, SHPHE completed and shipped gasketed plate heat exchangers for a power-plant project in Nigeria. Selection focused on temperature control, operating adaptability and reliable liquid-cooling service for the project's specified duties.
A power station's generating capacity describes the overall project. Each auxiliary cooling exchanger still needs an individual heat balance based on the equipment it serves, the permitted cooling-water temperatures and the required operating range.
Separating those two scales helps avoid a common procurement shortcut: using the station's MW rating to infer an exchanger's thermal duty. The exchanger datasheet must identify its own required capacity, pressure drop and design conditions.
The announced equipment uses SHPHE's third-generation Panda-eye plate technology. The published report cites heat-transfer and pressure-drop improvements relative to the company's stated conventional comparison. A new project's guaranteed values should be taken from its own calculation and agreed acceptance basis, rather than assuming the same percentage applies at every operating point.
The gasketed plate heat exchangers can be configured through plate pattern, number of plates, pass arrangement, alloy and gasket selection. These choices interact: a change that increases thermal performance may also affect pressure loss, frame capacity or cleaning access.
| Project input | Why it affects selection |
|---|---|
| Hottest cooling-water condition | Determines whether the target outlet temperature remains achievable |
| Minimum and maximum circuit flow | Checks distribution, control and hydraulic resistance |
| Water chemistry and contaminants | Supports plate-alloy and gasket selection |
| Duty/standby arrangement | Defines required availability during maintenance |
| Access and isolation | Allows safe plate-pack opening and inspection |
The delivery announcement states that the equipment was designed and manufactured to the relevant ASME requirements. The applicable design records, inspection scope and acceptance conditions belong to the supplied equipment package.
At commissioning, establish a baseline for each exchanger using flows, inlet and outlet temperatures and pressure drop on both circuits. Trend later performance at comparable conditions, accounting for seasonal temperature changes and altered plant load.
Provide the equipment schedule, cooling-water analysis, thermal datasheets and the proposed duty/standby philosophy. For an upgrade, include existing frame and nozzle constraints together with the problem to be solved. SHPHE can then assess the gasketed plate configuration and the appropriate maintenance arrangement.
